Background: Ostra Studio / Studio Biederer

Studio Ostra was the artistic name used by Jacques and Charles Biederer, two Jewish Czech brothers who moved to Paris in the early 20th century.

Their studio became known for erotic, fetish, BDSM, and spanking-themed photography, very avant-garde for its time.

The name “Ostra” comes from Moravská Ostrava, their hometown in what is now the Czech Republic.

They operated in the 1920s–1930s, during the Art Deco era, and were among the first to publish fetishist photo albums.

Tragically, both brothers were deported and killed in Auschwitz in 1942 during the Nazi occupation of France.
